Redfish Music Festival
branding, identity, merchandise, production: Anya Gearhart
BACKGROUND
The Redfish Chamber Music Festival is a summer music festival taking place in the town of Port Orford on the coast of Southern Oregon, offering a week-long camp for intensive chamber music education and performance opportunities to a maximum of 22 high school- and college-aged students, as well as a series of concerts offered to the public and located at venues throughout the city.
As newcomers to Port Orford, bringing arts and culture into a place with its own art and culture, one of the goals of this branding project is to take care to integrate thoughtfully into this small community. What can students learn about this place and take away from it? Music festivals can take place anywhere, but Redfish Chamber Music Festival takes place here.
NAME
The name “Redfish” comes from the nearby Redfish Rocks Marine Reserve located south of Port Orford. Redfish most likely describes the many species of Rockfish that live around the reef.
THE MARK
This mark is really strong. It combines a modern, square-ratio letter R with the top scroll shape of the f-hole of a string instrument. That shape also indicates the neck and scroll of a Violin, Viola, or Cello.
It has good movement that reminds me of the ocean, and classical music. Antique curves and sharp modern lines. Feels traditional but modern, established, serious, but deeply connected to a rich, quality experience.
